You can tell what a tree is like
by the fruit that it produces;
does it yield a spine of spikes,
or rejuvenating juices?
Does it furnish grapes and figs
or bristle-blanketed, dry sprigs?
Be attentive to the fruit it gives
for from the root grows up the twigs!
